Criteria for Editorial Board Membership
- To be considered for membership on our Editorial Board, an individual must:
- Demonstrate extensive and exceptional expertise in the subject matter addressed by the journal.
- Hold prominent positions at esteemed institutions, such as universities, industry or research organizations.
- Possess a PhD in the relevant field.
- Maintain a recognized record of publications and citations within the field, aligned with the journal’s scope.
- Show a steadfast dedication to upholding research integrity and ethical standards in publishing.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) holds the highest-ranking editorial position within the journal’s structure. The primary responsibility of the EiC is to oversee the entire publication process, with a particular focus on upholding the journal’s editorial standards and preserving its integrity. The EiC works in close collaboration with the distinguished editorial board, the associate editors and the committed publishing team to make sure the journal operates efficiently. Additionally, the Editor-in-Chief plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the journal’s overall vision and strategic direction, thereby securing its continued relevance and influence in the scientific community. The term of the contract typically lasts for two years, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement between the Editor-in-Chief and the publisher.
Responsibilities
- Defining Editorial Direction: The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) establishes the editorial vision and strategic direction for the publication.
- Content Selection: The EiC is responsible for determining the content that will be featured in the journal.
- Editorial Standards: The EiC ensures adherence to rigorous editorial standards, guaranteeing the publication of high-quality articles.
- Final Manuscript Decision: The EiC makes the final determination regarding the publication of manuscripts after peer review and revisions.
- Editorial Board Recommendations: The EiC recommends and nominates potential new members for the journal’s distinguished editorial board.
- Editorial Team Oversight: The EiC supervises the editorial team, organizing meetings, recruiting, and managing team members.
- Peer Review Management: The EiC works in collaboration with the Editorial Office to oversee the peer review process.
- Special Issue Topics: The EiC proposes topics for special issues to broaden the journal’s scope and diversity.
- Community Promotion: The EiC actively advocates for the journal within the academic community, at conferences, and on various social media platforms.
- Editorials: The EiC is responsible for writing editorials for the journal annually.
- Research Ethics and Misconduct: The EiC supports the editorial team in addressing matters related to research ethics and publication misconduct.
- Progress Meetings: The EiC participates in meetings focused on the journal’s development, where suggestions and improvements are considered and implemented.
Contract Term: 2 years, renewable upon mutual agreement.
Associate Editors
Associate Editors play a pivotal role in assisting the Editor-in-Chief with the decision-making process regarding manuscripts and the peer review system.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining Content Quality: Associate Editors are responsible for ensuring the journal’s content remains of the highest quality and integrity. They thoroughly assess submitted manuscripts, provide constructive feedback to authors, and ensure adherence to ethical standards and publication guidelines.
- Peer Review Management: Associate Editors manage the peer review process for the manuscripts assigned to them. They are responsible for selecting appropriate reviewers, overseeing the review process, and making editorial decisions based on the reviewers’ feedback and the overall quality of the manuscript.
- Editorial Board Support: Associate Editors offer critical support to the editorial board and the Editor-in-Chief. They actively engage in editorial meetings, contribute insights regarding editorial policies and strategies, and assist in the recruitment of new members for the editorial board.
Contract Term: 2 years, renewable by mutual agreement.
Regional Editors
Regional Editors also referred to as geographic editors, are entrusted with specific duties related to a defined region or geographic area within the framework of a scientific journal.
Responsibilities
- Content Curation: Regional Editors are tasked with curating and selecting content such as research articles, reviews, and contributions from their designated region. They ensure the content aligns with the journal’s objectives and maintain high-quality standards.
- Promotion: Regional Editors play an active role in promoting the journal within their respective geographic regions. They engage with researchers, academic institutions, and scientific communities to encourage submissions and increase readership.
- Maintaining Content Diversity: Regional Editors help ensure the journal reflects global diversity by actively seeking and selecting manuscripts from their regions.
- Maintaining Editorial Board Diversity: Regional Editors are responsible for enhancing the diversity of the Editorial Board by recruiting new, active members who are specialists in the journal’s subject matter.
- Thematic Issue Contribution: Regional Editors are expected to contribute or solicit at least one thematic issue on emerging topics pertinent to the journal’s field.
Contract Term: The contract is valid for two years and may be renewed upon mutual agreement.
Section Editors
Section Editors hold a vital position in the editorial process of a scientific journal, with their duties centred around overseeing a specific section or thematic domain within the journal.
Responsibilities:
- Content Selection: Section Editors are tasked with curating content for their designated section. This includes selecting and commissioning articles, research papers, reviews, and other contributions that align with the section’s focus and the overall scope of the journal.
- Thematic Issue Contribution: As experts in their respective fields, Section Editors are responsible for either soliciting or contributing to at least one thematic issue for the journal.
- Promotion: Section Editors often play an active role in promoting their section, which may involve reaching out to researchers and authors to encourage submissions relevant to their area of expertise.
- Emerging Trends: Section Editors stay informed about emerging trends and advancements within their field, ensuring that the content published in the journal remains timely and pertinent.
- Editorial Board Appointment: They are responsible for recruiting new members to join the editorial board within their section.
Contract Term: Two years, subject to renewal by mutual agreement.
Editorial Board Members
Responsibilities
- Manuscript Contribution: Members of the Editorial Board are required to contribute or solicit a minimum of one manuscript annually.
- Peer Review: Editorial Board members support the editorial office by recommending suitable reviewers for submitted articles. They are also expected to review at least 2-3 manuscripts within their area of expertise.
- Promotion: Members are responsible for actively promoting the journal within academic circles, including researchers, institutions, and scientific communities, to encourage both submissions and readership.
Contract Term: The term of service is 2 years, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
Guest Editors
Guest Editors, appointed for a three-year term, are integral to the development of thematic issues for the journal, each comprising at least 8-10 manuscripts, with a focus on emerging and dynamic research fields.
Responsibilities
- Thematic Issue Proposal: Develop the thematic issue proposal, outlining the objectives, scope, summary, and keywords.
- Inviting Contributors: Reach out to potential contributors from diverse global regions to submit manuscripts.
- Editorial for Thematic Issue: Author an editorial for the thematic issue.
- Manuscript Submission: Optionally, contribute a manuscript to the thematic issue.
- Promotions: Advocate for the topics through conferences, social media, and other pertinent platforms.
The editorial office oversees the peer review process for all submissions within the thematic issue. The final decision on the acceptance or rejection of the thematic issue is based on the feedback from the journal’s reviewers and the Editor-in-Chief’s ultimate judgment. This collaborative process ensures that the thematic issues adhere to the journal’s stringent standards of quality, relevance, and academic integrity.
PDP Early Career Researchers Board
PDP provides a platform for early career researchers to advance their professional development by joining the Early Career Researchers Board. Eligible candidates should be within five years of completing their PhD and have published at least five articles in international journals.
Responsibilities
- Manuscript Contribution: Soliciting or contributing articles to the journal.
- Reviewing: Engaging in co-review activities with senior colleagues.
- Promotion: Actively promoting the journal and its initiatives.
